Some of the fastest sprinters in the Rocky Mountain area converge on Wyoming Downs Racetrack this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, July 28 & 29, as the second half of the racing season gets underway with exciting ten race cards both days.
Snowbound Superstar, shipping in from Los Alamitos, looks to maintain his perfect record of six straight wins at 870 yards as the four year old grey gelding faces four others in the first of two Red Cell Trial races, here at Wyoming Downs in the seventh race of the day. Paul C. Jones, who is the country’s leading money winner and wins leader conditions last years distance champion.
In the second leg, of the Red Cell Trail, race 8, Runbyu, who will break from post position one, looks to make it two in a row for trainer Mike Scudder. Runbyu, a local area favorite, just missed the world record at 870 yards in 2004, here at Wyoming Downs. Other sprinters looking to knock off Runbyu on Saturday, is CB Thunderhoofs who made it six in a row by winning at this distance on opening day by four lengths.
Other races of interest on Saturday include, the $49,350 Blane Schvaneveldt/Cowboy Classic, carded as race 9 on the program, featuring a field of two year olds going 330 yards. Prissy B Panther, the morning line favorite, looks to destroy the field of 10 again. Cam Colledge, the tracks leading rider, will guide Sun Spots Baby from the outside and look to take home the top honor in the race.
Wyoming Downs will feature, starting this weekend, a $2 Pick 6 on races 4-9 with a starting mutuel pool of $1500 and a 100% carryover if the Pick 6 is not hit. The entire pool will be forced out on Sunday, August 19th, closing day of the meet.
