Wyoming Downs Post Significant Gains
Evanston, Wyoming, August 28, 2007.- After undergoing a sale and ownership change in late 2006, substantial facility renovations, and a robust marketing and advertising campaign, Wyoming Downs concluded its 15-day mixed meet on August 18th with across the board increases in attendance and handle.
A strong increase in average daily attendance of 4.2% over the prior year combined with a 43.8% increase in average handle per day drove handle to over $100,000. Average handle per race increased to over $10,700, leading to a whopping 55.2% improvement over 2006.
Wagering on Wyoming Downs was available at OTB’s nationwide for the first time as over 50 outlets participated in the inauguration of the new Wyoming Downs Simulcast Network, including Youbet, TVG and broadcasts on ESPN.com.
Highlights of the meet included hosting several AQHA Challenge Series races, a tremendous outing by the 2006 AQHA Distance Champion Snowbound Superstar, trained by Paul Jones, the Winner of the 2006 SW Regional Distance Championship at 870 yards, and setting a new track record at Wyoming Downs.
It was a fight to the finish for leading trainer status as Mike Taylor edged out Jay Pitcher, 17-14 in wins and Cam Colledge, won the leading jockey award for the second straight year with 25 wins.
The Wyoming Downs 2008 race season should prove even more promising as the track looks to add more racing dates, increase its bottom purses, card even more thoroughbred races and pursue additional AQHA races.
