The action will be fast and furious this weekend at Wyoming Downs with trials for no less than six high powered stakes races and three overnight stakes on tap to boot.

Heading the Friday afternoon card will be the trials for the prestigious Silver Dollar Futurity where forty two year olds will be vying for the ten spots in the finals.

Utah Classic Futurity winner Bennys a Jet and Rocky Mountain Futurity winner Auto Rotate will be likely favorites to make the finals from the four trials that lead off the card.

Auto Rotate has banked nearly $13,000 already this year while Bennys A Jet has a bankroll of over $8,500.

Also on Friday, two sets of trials will be contested for the Northwest Regional Challenge Bayer Legend Derby and the Northwest Regional Challenge Bank of America Championship.

Headlining the Derby trials will be stakes winners Sum Special Hum (Pot of Gold Futurity it 2008 and $23,000 in earnings), Full Boat (Rocky Mountain Derby and $41,000 in earnings), SR Ocean Dream (Bitterroot Derby and $23,000 in earnings) along with stakes placed runners To Shay, Rockin Rylee, Timberman Iona Corona, Tisa Dream Runne and Saving Faith.

The Championship Trials for older horses will feature Honor Me Good, winner of the Claiming Championships last year and he will try to outrun Snip N Dale, JW A Royal Trip and Gomez Palacio in Friday’s finale.  All four horses have earned in excess of $60,000 and have solid stakes credentials.

On Saturday, the action will really heat up as the day will kick off with two trials for the Silver Dollar Derby followed quickly by the Bear River Stakes at 870 yards.

In the Bear River Stakes, scheduled as a prep for the upcoming Red Cell Championships two weeks away, longtime favorite and winner of 19 races during his career, Runbyu will be making his seasonal debut at this high country track.

Runbyu has qualified for the National Championships on three different occasions and the ten year old is one of the favorites to win again this year.  Runbyu has already picked up a win this year at Pocatello and with race under his belt, should be the favorite to pick up the Bear River Stakes for the third time in his career.

Forty seven fleet two year olds will be vying for the final gate in the trials for the Northwest Regional Challenge John Deere Juvenile.  The finals, to be held in two weeks, will likely have a purse nearing $70,000.

Heading the list of entrants is Hoist Mission, an earner of over $43,000 and the Bitterroot Futurity winner for this year.  Hoist Mission hails from the barn of Ron Moosman, and will have regular jockey Bret Anderson aboard.

Princess of Zoom, winner of the Pot O Gold Futurity back in April at Sun Downs is another with a big chance in the trials.  Berkely Packer will ride for trainer Monty Arrossa on Saturday.

Brisant is another undefeated youngster with great credentials, having won the Beehive Futurity for trainer Jay Pitcher and regular pilot Dirk Crane.  This son of Brimmerton has earned over $26,000 for his two wins and has posted a speed index of 108.

Rounding out the Saturday afternoon program will be a field of twelve Thoroughbreds in the annual Evanston Speed Handicap at four and one half furlongs.

Heading the cast of twelve runners will be track record holder Restrictions Apply, a winner of eleven races during his 35 race career.  Hailing from the Mike Taylor barn, top jockey Cameron Colledge will be aboard.  Other primary contenders in the field will beCocodan who is shipping in from Montana, speedsters Towering Prince and Bold Gunner from the Scudder Stables and lightly raced Rio Bound who is undefeated but hasn’t raced since 2006.

The Joe Joyce / Independence Day handicap will be renewed at seven and one half furlongs and will be the finale of a thirteen race card.

Eleven older runners are slated to go postward headed by defending champion Mr. Intensity, Montana invaders C.C. Rudy and Ourtickethome, and local route runners Seyah Atthe Kasba, Freesophistication and Merle T.

First post on both days will be 1:05 pm.

Wyoming Downs opened its 8-day meet with an 8-race program on Saturday June 27th and will conclude on July 19. Races are every Saturday and Sunday, excepting Fourth of July weekend, when it will race Friday, July the 3rd, and Saturday, July the 4th.  Racing kicks off each day at 1:05pm and gates open at 11:30am.
